Oral surgery

Tooth extraction, wisdom tooth treatment, and surgical procedures that prepare the mouth for restorative work.

A surgical procedure in a sterile clinical setting, with surgical instruments.

What is it?

Oral surgery covers procedures needed when a tooth can no longer be saved, or when other surgical care is required — from tooth extraction, through wisdom tooth treatment, to procedures that prepare the mouth for restorative work.

Who is it for?

Recommended for those where a severe fracture, extensive decay, or an accident means the tooth can no longer be preserved, or where the position of the wisdom teeth is causing, or may cause, problems.

How does it work?

Before any procedure we always assess the situation — with a CBCT scan if needed — to choose the gentlest, most predictable approach. Extractions are carried out under local anaesthetic; more complex cases may require a surgical flap.

What to expect afterwards?

Swelling and mild discomfort may occur in the days following the procedure; your dentist will give you detailed guidance on this and on oral hygiene care. Where a tooth is lost, it's worth discussing replacement options before the procedure, to help prevent further bone loss.
